Talc are used in the pulp, paper and board industry as a pitch and sticky control agent, as runnability aid, as a coating pigment in paper industry, and as a multifunctional filler. In certain specialty papers such as colored papers and labels, talc's special properties improve quality and productivity.
Talc reduces paper surface friction, crepe wrinkles and core burst problems, prevent wear and abrasion on reels / cutters and other converting equipment and give paper a smooth softer feel by improving paper touch.
Virgin pulp & Paper production:
Pulp cleanliness is critical for runnability in both pulp and paper production. In virgin pulp production, the main cause of runnability problems is wood pitch which forms deposits in screens, filters, pipes and storage tanks leading to excessive broke and bad dewatering. Talc can be used in both the pulp and paper production process to adsorb pitch, preventing agglomerations that form deposits in operating systems. Talc keeps the process and the finished pulp clean thus improving pulp quality, preventing deposits in the equipment, reducing downtime and broke on the paper machine. Talc is also worked as a cost effective fiber substitute, extending wire and machine fabric life. Talc is chemically inert, allowing producers to work with closed water circuits, reducing water consumption and river pollution. Talc is also an excellent, cost-effective TiO2 extender, improving opacity and the quality of the finished paper.
Recycled Fiber (RCF) & Deinked Pulp (DIP) production
In RCF and DIP pulp production, the main cause of runnability problems are ‘stickies’ such as wood resin, adhesives, inks, plastics, binders and hotmelts, which forms deposits in screens, filters, pipes and storage tanks leading to excessive broke and bad dewatering. Talc are natural stickies control agents which can be used to remove and neutralize stickies throughout the pulp and paper production process. Also, by using talc, mills can work with closed water circuits – reducing river pollution and water consumption.
- Talc is also used as pitch and stickies control agent in Newsprint, Tissue Papers production, printing and writing paper production and packaging applications (like container board, solid board, kraft paper, wrapping paper) etc.
